L’opera è stata realizzata dall’artista Ben Peretti
Cisano Remembers the Battle of 1848
The community of Cisano commemorates the battle of May 29, 1848, a significant episode of the First War of Independence. The initiative, promoted by the Compagnia della Bandiera di Cisano in collaboration with the Municipality of Bardolino, is dedicated to the memory of Valentino Peretti. The work was created by the artist Ben Peretti, in collaboration with Stefano Gianfranceschi.
In 1848, while the Kingdom of Sardinia was attempting to liberate Lombardy–Venetia from the Habsburgs, Cisano became the scene of a crucial clash. The Austrian troops under Colonel Zobel, advancing from Calmasino to relieve the besieged fortress of Peschiera, met the resistance of the volunteers from Pavia and the Brigata Piemonte.
The fighting reached its peak near the cemetery of San Vito, where the action led by General Federici and Major Capriglio forced the Austrians to retreat. The victory contributed to the surrender of Peschiera, which took place the following day.
The day was also marked by two civilian casualties — Adamo Valetti of Cisano and Carlo “Liborio” Barbazeni of Bardolino — killed during the Austrian withdrawal: a sacrifice that recalls the price paid by the local population.
A work that honors the courage, memory, and Risorgimento roots of our land.
